2026 Kia K4 hatchback is unveiled for the first time

Kia's handsome K4 compact sedan, which debuted at the 2024 New York Auto Show in March, will spawn a hatchback sibling, the first prototype of which has been spotted.

The K4 is the successor to the Forte, while the K4 hatchback will replace the former Forte 5 hatch. In Europe, the K4 hatch is expected to replace the Seed.

Although the prototype is heavily camouflaged, Kia has already previewed the design during the K4 sedan's New York debut. The car was briefly shown in a video presentation, with Kia design chief Karim Habib referring to it as the K4 5-door.

According to reports, Kia plans to sell both body styles of the K4 in the US. The hatch will likely go on sale next year, likely as a 2026 model in the U.S.

The hatch will likely have the same specifications as the sedan, but will likely have more storage space. The sedan is 185.4 inches long, nearly 3 inches longer than the Forte. Hatchbacks tend to be shorter than sedans, and this one may be no different.

Inside, there is a floating panel that spans nearly 30 inches and should integrate a digital screen for the instrument cluster and an infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Kia has confirmed two powertrain options for the sedan in the U.S., and the same options should be available for the hatch. The standard option is a 147 hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder, with a 190 hp 1.6-liter turbo four also available. The naturally aspirated engine will be mated to a CVT, while the turbocharged engine will be mated to an 8-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard for both powertrains.

Kia also plans to offer an electric hatchback similar in size to the K4 hatch. This was heralded last year by the EV4 concept, and the name will likely carry over into production.
